Hazel Dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius)

Our ecology team is experienced in delivering a range of surveys for Dormice, often undertaken as part of a Phase 1 survey. We provide  presence/absence surveys following this, if required.

Where Dormice are confirmed on site we provide professional advice on mitigation and licensing. We also provide the implementation for bespoke mitigation strategies.

About the animal:

Hazel Dormice (Muscardinus avellanarius) are primarily found in Southern England and Wales. They are one of our rarest animals, and are the focus of many projects to support and increase their population. As they have specific requirements to flourish it is important that this protected species is properly considered when completing any project, no matter its size. Information about the legislation protecting these animals can be found in the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 (as amended), and the Conservation (Natural Habitats &c.) Regulations 1994 (as amended).
