If you are requiring or think you may require a Great Crested Newt Survey this year then you really need to be undertaking them now. We are in the middle of the peak season and leaving the survey much later may result in insufficient data to satisfy in future mitigation plans you may require. Natural England recommend that surveys be carried out in peak season; mid-April to Mid-May https://www.gov.uk/great-crested-newts-surveys-and-mitigation-for-development-projects#when-to-survey
We are currently undertaking some Newt surveys at the Heathrow Conservation sites Princes Lakes and Mayfield Farm. This is part of our on-going management of these sites. We know that Smooth Newts are likely to be present but we carry out periodical surveys to see if any Great Crested Newts have colonised the sites as these are a much more highly protected species. The surveys also inform our management plans of the sites and help monitor progress toward our site targets.
If you require or think tyou may require any GCN surveys please do contact us to discuss further.
